The upcoming Champions Trophy scheduled to take place in Pakistan this february has been hit by another controversy. It is customary for every team to put host nation’s name on their T-Shirt. However, BCCI has released the design for Team India’s kit and it doesn’t have Pakistan mentioned on it.
This has sparked controversy as PCB has criticized the move and highlighted that BCCI is politicizing the event by not adding the name of the host country.
They have also requested ICC to intervene and take some action for this is a clear deviation for the rules.
BCCI, in its defence, said that this is not a requirement but just a tradition and India’s matches are not taking place in Pakistan so putting the country’s name on their T-Shirt would not be unnecessary.
Before this event, India did the same thing back in the Asia Cup 2023. The matter was resolved given that ACC decided not to include host nation’s name on the T-shirt from then onwards. Though it sparked critism but team India got away very swify with thatm
However, seniors from PCB are majorly criticizing India’s move claiming that India has been politicing every part of the tournament which is hurting the game in many ways.
The Asia Cup 2023 was scheduled to be hosted by Pakistan but had to be shifted to a hybrid model given India’s resistance from traveling to Pakistan. Despite that, PCB allowed PCT to play the ODI World Cup 2023 hosted by India.
While PCB has always tried to give priority to the game, BCCI seem to bring in their political biases every time – leading to many controversies.
This time, PCB representatives and senior players of Pakistan are not letting go of the biasness, raising a voice againts BCCI’s politicised moves.
While ICC is trying to accomodate to both the boards, we can only hope that they take a strong action againts this issue and come up with some fruitful resolution.
